In 2008 I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and put on all sorts of medication including a very high dose of steroids. I quickly gained weight... a lot of weight. I went from 175 pounds to 240 pounds in less than a year. I was battling a disease and it was slowly taking over my life and killing me.

In 2010 I decided it was time to make a change. All it took was one day. One day that's it! But it was the hardest day of my life. It's very hard to admit that you're in the morbidly obese category. But that's what I did. I talked to a friend and told her I was making a change starting today and I did.

I went to Weight Watchers that November day because I had heard such good things. It was like walking into my new home. I followed weight watchers for about 6 months and lost 56 pounds! That's right. A HUGE change in diet and the pounds melted off!! 6 pounds the first week! I'll never forget it!

In May of 2011 I was pleasantly surprised with a pregnancy. So for 9 months I housed a child and gained 40 pounds. My healthy baby boy was born in January of 2012 and so began my weightloss journey again. This time I had a colicky infant to come along for the ride with me.

It took me well over a year to get back to my pre-pegnancy weight. After that I was stuck. I confided in a friend the summer of 2013 and she literally DRAGGED me to the gym with her! My first class was BOOT CAMP! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I hadn't worked in well over 10 years and you she took me to boot camp! Well I was sore and it was terrible BUT I was in love! I went to the gym and signed up a week later.

I had 6 weeks off from work after that and I worked my tail off. At the gym almost every day and more active than ever. I remember looking at myself one day and saying “who am I?” I never imagined myself being a gym go-er. I took all sorts of classes, aqua fit, body sculpt, step, cardio kick boxing, spin.. if they had it I was in! I broke through and lost another 20 pounds. At 164 pounds I went back to work and my availability to go to the gym depleted to JUST the weekends. So I needed to work out at home. I work out now just about every night at home now for 30-45 minutes. As a mom whose husband works nights, I get very little time alone to do things I need to. So after my 2 year old goes to bed (7:30 or 8pm) I exercise. Yep that’s my time! That’s all I have but I make it work because I have to.

I use exercise videos or use my apartment size stepper that easily fits under my couch. The pounds have kept slowly coming off. And now here I am December of 2013 at 159 pounds and still losing. It's absolutely more difficult now as a mom than ever before. Life is no longer about me 100% of the time. I have a healthy goal weight of 140-150 pounds. And I am on a mission to reach my goal and help others reach theirs. So please join me!

My Story

This was taken in December of 2009. It is VERY hard for me to find full body pictures of myself at this time. This was me fairly close to my heaviest

My handom husband and I in November of 2013.

I was asked to speak at a Weight Watcher event the summer of 2013. These are a pair of my old pants. Size 20W. I now wear a size 6!
